It's hard to say I really care

My undergraduate major which included Human Rights exposed the dire need for people to start caring more. Working for the United Nations Development Programme reinforced more of the same. Now helping with the efforts of charity: water, I re-think, "Do I really care?"

I do. I do care. However, how can I go around and say to people, "Hey, I really care." When I buy one 'iced double tall soy latte with one splenda' every morning, and can't get over my addiction to beautiful fabric and clothing though it's obvious how corrupt the industry is in terms of human rights violations. This PC user is even thinking about converting to a Mac despite all of the human rights violation controversies of corporate social responsibility.

I am no Mother Teresa (God bless her), but I do care. Watching the lavishly adorned and beautifully dressed men and women at the charity: ball 2010 on Monday made me realize, it's okay to have a little fun while supporting a great cause, right? Maybe I'm in denial, but I confess on this little blog of mine that I cannot give up two of my addictions: lattes, and fashion. 1 weeks worth of lattes for me is more than 2 years worth of clean drinking water for millions around the word. I know this, so why can't I stop?

I'm trying to be a better person and I'm trying to let my personal actions speak louder than college major, work, and volunteering. Recognizing these faults of mine, I kindly ask you to also participate in bettering the world 1 cup of clean drinking water at a time. $20 can give 1 person clean water for 20 years. 20 years! Please watch the 20/20 special on ABC tonight at 10PM est to learn more about charity: water. Isn't it time that we 'really' start caring?

Here are pictures from the charity: ball 2010. If you want to join in on what we celebrated, why not consider Christmas presents as donations in someone else's name, a charity: water iphone cover, or even a well?

Culinary ART

I sent out 1 college application all or nothing when I was 18 years old to become an Architect. If I didn't land that dream, I was going to save up to attend culinary school. I have always loved cooking, baking, ingredient shopping.... creating the percfect combination of flavours, textures, colours in my head before actually cooking. My boyfriend calls it my brain tongue.

Though I never became a chef luckily my 1 application was successful, I still love everything about cooking well, perhaps minus how much ingredients cost. There is more to food than just cooking with it. We become nourished by it, it inspires design, the way we move about in the kitchen, how influenced we are by its scent, and how perfectly God has created every single ingredient that exists.

Food shapes the plates we eat off of, creates movement in the plan of our cooking area in a particular order, and creates the design of the the space in which we eat the food in. It's MARVELOUS!

The way that the food item looks, behaves, and feels is often just as - if not more- important than the way it tastes. Surprising? Take a look at this food diary.

And girls, don't forget to eat your white bread. There is nothing better than perfectly raised, freshly baked plain white bread.

Satisfaction

Certain things can make you feel oh-so-satisfied. Such as consuming the perfect remedy to a craving...

looking back on accomplishments a la mode...

changing into a pair of laid back boots after a hard day of heels...

or relaxing while watching the sunset and thankful another day has gone by - safely, smoothly, and blessedly...

Happy Thanksgiving!
It was a windy, rainy Thanksgiving here in NYC. But if there is wind, might as well let the chiffon fly and get a free blowout!

Denims & Camel

I LOVE my denim trousers. A simple shirt/tank, the trousers, and heels make you fit for any occasion.

Stylish in Soho, NYC

Camel Blazer and Lavin sunglasses <3

I'm into capes. I have always been into capes.... but camel capes are a whole new world of oooh~s and aaaah~s. (BUT don't ever smoke! it makes every outfit look terrible when paired with a cigarette)

Favourites from this season's ZARA collection. Made my rounds again in the store last weekend :)

Today was the day

Lanvin opening at H&M US was mayhem. Embarrassingly, I admit I was a part of that mayhem, but questioned the actual worth of the dress relative to the scale of production and anticipation. Either way, time will tell if the dress holds up to its standards.

Please remind me inteh future that gettin gno sleep, wasting time in line, and fighting vicious girls for a piece of fabric is NOT worth it .... or is it?
